Task

Design a food delivery app that allows users to quickly find a meal, place an order, and reorder a previous order without having to select the items again.

Research

Conducted 8 in-depth interviews with food delivery users to understand how they choose meals, place orders, and reorder previous purchases, as well as the challenges they face throughout the process.

YouMeal – A food delivery app
designed for fast and easy meal
ordering.

Helps users discover meals, place orders, and easily reorder past orders.

Key insights

  • Users choose meals based on photos, ingredients, and price.

  • With a large selection of meals, users need to quickly find a specific dish.

  • When reordering, users check their order history, but sometimes search for the same meal again manually.

  • Users consider delivery time and the terms of the order when choosing a meal.

  • Users need information about ingredients and allergens before ordering.

  • Delivery fees, additional charges, and the minimum order amount are not always clear before placing an order.

Competitive Analysis

Analyzed direct and indirect competitors, as well as products with similar interaction patterns, to understand how they help users find a meal, place an order, and reorder. The analysis revealed several approaches that could be applied to YouMeal.

Key insights

  • McDonald's and Subway feature saved dishes on the home screen.

  • DoorDash offers recommendations and popular dishes to help users choose.

  • Yandex Eats allows users to reorder directly from the home screen.

  • DoorDash provides budget filters and highlights popular dishes at the top of the catalog.

  • Chibbis displays delivery fees during dish selection and keeps the cart visible with the order total and delivery time.

  • Dish cards include photos, ingredients, allergen information, and add-on prices.

  • The cart displays order details, the minimum order amount, and the final cost before checkout.

  • An order history with photos and editable items makes repeat purchases easier.

User Flow

Mapped the user journey from choosing a meal to reordering to define the key steps and screens needed before moving into UI design.

Key insights

  • When users don’t know what to order, popular dishes and categories should help them get started.

  • Price, ingredients, and dietary restrictions are important factors when choosing a meal.

  • Delivery fees and additional charges should be clear before the order is confirmed.

  • Reordering should let users quickly return to a familiar meal without searching for it again.

  • Before placing a repeat order, users should be able to adjust the quantity or ingredients.

1. Getting Started

From the home screen, users can browse the catalog and choose a category. Recent order provides a quick way to reorder without searching again.

Popular dishes help users decide what to order, while favorites give quick access to saved items.

2. Finding a Meal

Users choose a category and narrow down the options by price and dietary restrictions.

The catalog then shows only relevant dishes, making it easier to find a suitable option without browsing the entire list.

3. Before Ordering

Before adding a dish, the user checks the dish and its ingredients. A photo of the packaged dish helps show what the meal looks like in real life. After adding it to the order, the user can see how much is left to reach the minimum order amount.

Once the minimum amount is reached, the order can be placed.

4. Final Check

In the cart, users review the items and total cost, adjust quantities or add more dishes if needed. Before confirming, they can see the full order total and delivery details.

After confirmation, users receive an order confirmation and can start tracking their order.

5. Reordering

The most recent order is available directly from the home screen for quick reordering, while order history provides access to all previous orders and their statuses.

Opening a previous order lets you review its contents and reorder it in one tap, with the option to adjust the quantity, meal options, or add more dishes before checkout.

Design System

The interface was built using a custom design system with reusable components and consistent visual guidelines.
